Dela Cruz tops MGA monthly tourney

Joey Dela Cruz topped the Marianas Golf Association February Ace of the Month Tournament held last Feb. 23 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course.
Dela Cruz actually finished tied with Frank Cabrera after both players shot an identical net score of 69. The former carded a gross of 78 built around a 38 in the front and a 40 in the back, while the latter fired a gross of 89 after a 44 in the front and a 45 in the back. Dela Cruz and Cabrera sport handicaps of nine and 20, respectively.

For the third and fourth spots, there was yet another tie, this time between J.J. Atalig and 2014 MGA president Jack Salas, who both netted a 70 in tournament.

Atalig shot a 39 in the front and a 37 in the back for a gross of 76. With a handicap of 6, Atalig netted a 70. Salas shot a 44 in the front and a 42 in the back for a gross of 86. With a handicap of 16, Salas netted a 70.

With the application of MGA’s tie-breaking regulations, Atalig bagged third place and Salas settled for fourth. Coming in at fifth place was Geri Dela Cruz who shot a 50 in the front and a 45 in the back for a gross of 95. With a handicap of 24, Dela Cruz netted a 71.

In the closest to the pin battle, Aaron Benavente won in hole No. 3, Jay Muna in hole No. 7, Cabrera in hole No.13, and Salas in hole No. 17.

MGA president Salas is inviting members of the community to join this organization. The annual membership fee for existing members is $30 and for new members is $40. Membership fees are due by the June 2014 Ace of the Month Tournament.
