Dela Cruz is interim casino commission chairman
Atalig will serve as CCC acting executive director
Commissioners of the Commonwealth Casino Commission voted Thursday last week for Ramon M. Dela Cruz of Tinian to serve as an interim chairman effective last Friday.
At a meeting held via videoconference, the commissioners also voted for Diego M. Songao of Rota to serve as interim secretary effective Thursday, and CCC audit manager Charlie O. Atalig as acting executive director effective today, Monday.
This comes as the terms of CCC chair Juan M. Sablan and commissioners Joseph C. Reyes and Alvaro A. Santos, all representing Saipan, expired Thursday. Dela Cruz and Songao have four more years to serve.
CCC executive director Edward C. Deleon Guerrero was nominated by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres to serve as CCC commissioner.
Torres also nominated former House speaker Rafael S. Demapan and former Zoning board chair Mariano Taitano to serve as members of CCC representing the Third Senatorial District or Saipan.
The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation will continue the public hearing today, Monday, for the confirmation of Deleon Guerrero, Demapan, and Taitano.
Torres wrote his nomination letters last March 11 to Rep. Paul P. Sablan (R-Saipan), who chairs the SNILD. The appointment requires the advice and consent of the SNILD. If confirmed, Demapan, Taitano, and Deleon Guerrero will serve four-year terms, which will expire in April 2024.
