Long-time MP United player Enrico Del Rosario has committed to play for the Alderson Broaddus University Battlers in the NCAA Division 2.

“I chose this school because the football program is amazing. I had a great conversation with the coach and it’s very exciting. From the fields, players, and staff, it’s all great,” the 17-year-old player said.

“The most important is that they have the course and major that I want to take up and as early as freshman I can already experience hands on. In addition, the people around the campus are nice and I don’t know why but there’s really something about Alderson that got me hooked,” he added.

Enrico’s father and coach, Norman, said that he is pleased with his son’s decision.

“Enrico told us his experience during his visit. The program is great in both the athletic and academic aspects,” the older Del Rosario said. “The team is like a family which is what he is used to with MP United.”

The Mount Carmel School senior will be playing collegiate soccer after years of honing his skills in the sport. He started playing soccer when he was just 8 years old.

“Soccer has been good to me over the years and I’m capitalizing on that opportunity to get a good education,” Enrico told Saipan Tribune.

Enrico plans to pursue a degree in sports science while playing for the Division 2 school.

“From professional athletes to personal fitness sector, we always look for ways to increase sports performance, raise levels of physical fitness, and reduce risk of injury or speed up recovery. I believe that this degree will be in demand as well as beneficial for me in the future,” he said.

As part of the requirements of his contract with Alderson, Enrico, who is still in the U.S., said he needs to attain and maintain a certain G.P.A to continue playing. He will be back on island on New Year’s Eve and after spending the holidays with his family, he will resume training for future competitions. He usually spends a few hours every day working out and is at the soccer field three times a week, working on his touches and passes with his teammates.
