The Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association held its first organization meeting for next year’s Pacific Mini Games and Micronesian Games last Saturday at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

NMIVA president Somia Quan said she was pretty satisfied with the turnout during the meeting, which gathered interested players and coaches for the beach volleyball competition of the 2022 Mini Games the CNMI will be hosting for the first time as well as the 2022 Micronesian Games in the Marshall Islands.

“The meetings went really well. We had a big turnout for indoor volleyball, both men and women. We had a decent number show up for beach volleyball and interested coaches as well. It was exciting to see so many interested players respond to the call to try out for our CNMI national team. I’d say we had at least 20 girls and same amount of boys show up for indoor. Beach was maybe 10 girls and eight boys. There was some overlap as some individuals are interested in trying out for both or haven’t decided yet which sport,” she said.

To this end, the NMIVA head they will be having their first tryout tournament tomorrow, Oct. 23, at Crowne Plaza Resort (formerly Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan).

Quan expects that the tryout would be the start of NMIVA’s buildup to choosing national teams for both beach and indoor volleyball in the Mini Games and Micro Games, respectively, next year.

Aside from beach volleyball, also in the calendar for the 2022 Pacific Mini Games are tennis, weightlifting, va’a, athletics, baseball, badminton, golf, and triathlon.
