Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang left Saipan yesterday to attend the 75th Annual Guam Liberation Day celebration and appointed Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chair Debra Camacho as acting mayor.

“I will be in Guam until the 24th, as I have been invited by the Guam mayors to participate in the Liberation Day parade,” Apatang said.

Apatang will also attend the change of command ceremony for Navy Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, the outgoing commander of Joint Region Marianas. Chatfield was appointed to become the first female president of the U.S. Naval War College. Chatfield was selected to be the 58th superintendent of the college last June 14. She was also present in the CNMI to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Battles of Saipan and Tinian.

Miss 2019 Liberation Day Queen Pernalyn Janet Borja Camacho, Miss 2018 Liberation Day Queen Brinae Jessilyn Maratita Cruz, and Liberation Day Queen Committee chair Bridget Maratita will accompany Apatang in his trip to Guam. Camacho will also be participating in the parade.
