The Northern Marianas College has announced that that the Tan Siu Lin Foundation has extended its deadline for the submission of scholarship applications to Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.

The Tan Siu Lin Foundation program awards $1,000 scholarship each to 10 deserving full-time NMC students pursuing an approved institutional degree during the 2017-2018 school year (fall, spring, or summer).

Of the 10 awards, five will be awarded to students who are pursuing a degree in the business field (associate of arts, associate of applied science, or bachelor of science).

The other five scholarships will be awarded to students who are pursuing other degrees (including Education, Nursing, Natural Resources Management, Criminal Justice, or Liberal Arts).

The scholarships will be awarded based on financial need, merit, eligibility, content of each student’s written essay, and interview process (if necessary).

The TanHoldings Foundation was formed in 2002 and was renamed after the company’s founder and chairman, Dr. Tan Siu Lin. Through the years, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation has launched initiatives and built trusted partnerships with a diverse array of individuals, families, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. These partners represent many different backgrounds and income levels. The main mission of the organization is to better serve the regions in which they operate, making the communities a better place to live.

“For several years, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation has provided scholarships to NMC students and has launched the success of many of our graduates,” said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “We are extremely thankful for the company’s long standing support.”

The scholarships are based on merit and will be awarded to the recipient on the basis of the candidate’s community involvement, academic background, and letters of recommendation. The essay and interview will also play a key role in the final selection of scholarship recipients.
