David Apatang announces his candidacy for Saipan mayor
Vows to continue the work of late mayor Donald G. Flores
In a prepared statement yesterday, David Mundo Apatang, a retired Army first sergeant, Vietnam veteran, and a five-term member of the CNMI House of Representatives, announced his bid for the Saipan mayoral seat as an independent candidate.
In his announcement, Apatang said: “I am still in shock, as I was nine days ago today, by the untimely passing of Mayor Donald G. Flores. Mayor Flores was very active in the community and has unarguably done a lot for the island of Saipan despite the limited resources allotted to his office. Without question, Donald’s humility and passion for the public service has raised the bar for future mayors.”
“That said, I am declaring my candidacy for mayor simply because, like the late mayor, I believe in hard work and active community involvement. Saipan needs a responsive local chief executive who will not only meet the calls and needs of the community but one who puts the people first. I am that person and I vow to provide the community with a high degree of public service that it rightfully deserves.”
Apatang’s formal announcement comes on the heels of the funeral services and burial of late mayor Flores. (PR)
