Darts, billiards leagues get MARPAC backing

MARPAC has renewed its commitment to support the Pacific Amusement-organized tournaments under the Saipan Electronic Darts Association and the Saipan Billiards Association. Bud Light and Budweiser are the title sponsors of the darts and billiards leagues, respectively.

Guy Pudney, general manager of MARPAC, which has been supporting both tournaments for over 20 years, and sales manager James Lee presented the $5,000 sponsorship check to PA GM Jim Gebhardt and league secretary Warlee T. Ellama. The money will cover the administrative expenses of both leagues, including the trophies given every awards banquet. SEDA and SBA grew significantly with the help of MARPAC with players enjoying the camaraderie and friendly competition.

Around 3,500 players have participated in both leagues that started in the early 90s. SEDA started in 1993, while SBA began in 1995. Over 300 players from 53 teams joined the last darts season.

Jonny’s Bar & Grill, VFW Post 3457, Blue Koi Tavern, Sands Café & Bar, Oleai Beach Bar, Doro’s Lechon, Naked Fish Café, 6JMS Sport’s Bar were the hosts and sponsors in both leagues last year. 9Eleven Resto Bar & The Warehouse are willing to join next season.

The darts league plays from Mondays to Thursdays and has room for every skill level. The new season will begin in July. (PR)
