Winners of the Marianas Tourism Education Council photo contest were awarded at the Tourism Summit held at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan last Thursday.

Students from various schools submitted their photos in line with the theme, “One Ocean, One Heart.”

Dandan Middle School ruled the first category which is for fifth through eighth graders.

Kozmy Porras, Connie Mendiola, and Ronaldo Manzano—all seventh graders from Dandan MS—took home the first, fourth, and fifth places.

Sixth to eight graders of the MyWAVE Club of San Antonio Middle School won second place, while Everly Caronan, a sixth grader from Garapan Elementary School, placed third.

Kagman High School, on the other hand, dominated the high school category.

Twelfth graders Samantha Santos, Hans Christian Sante, and Lennox Iderbei of Kagman HS took home the first, third and fifth.

Santos’ photo featured three girls holding their raised hands at the beach had a caption that said, “we are all connected by a body of ocean. The reason we held hands because no matter the race or ethnicity, we are one. We are a whole.”

Saipan Southern High School’s ninth grade student Dayna Jeanne Cabrera took second place while Marianas High School’s Jameson Kui Lee, a 12th grader, placed fourth.

Aside from cash prizes of $25, $50, $75, $100, and $125 for the fifth through first placers, gift certificates from DFS Galeria, Sand Castle, and PIC were awarded to the winners.
