Dandan beats Garapan black and blue in women’s hoops

Dandan left Garapan biting its dust, 45-25, in the women’s division of the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League last Saturday at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium in Gualo Rai.
Connie Camacho led Dandan from the get-go with her veteran leadership as they took a 19-10 lead at the half.
The many time national cager then let her younger teammates take the reins in the second half, as Dandan cruised to the 20-point win.
Camacho led all scorers with 10 points, while Mini Games 3-time gold medal-winning weightlifter Antonette Labausa backed her up with 7 markers of her own. Marlene Lumabi scored 9 points in the loss for Garapan.
In the first game, Kagman nipped Tanapag, 28-25, in the boys U13 division thanks to the last-gasp field goal of James Enriquez and split free throws by Liam Wilson.
It was a tight game right from the opening tip with Kagman nosing out Tanapag, 14-11, at the break.
It was a dogfight until the end with Kagman managing the victory with Wilson leading the charge with his 11 markers. Dale Garcia matched Wilson’s 11 points in the loss for Tanapag.
In the day’s final game, Koblerville shook off a stubborn Navy Hill team, starting in the second half, 50-38, in the boys U18 age group.
Both teams battled tooth and nail in the first 20 minutes of action with Koblerville managing to take a slim 22-20 lead.
Navy Hill forgot their running shoes come the second half, as they couldn’t keep up with Koblerville in the final 20 minutes of the contest and they were buried by an avalanche of points.
Airson Atan frocliked all game long and finished with a season-high 26 points, while Matthew Lucas chipped in 12. Sean Garcia poured in 15 for Navy Hill in the setback.
The 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League is being run by the Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation.
