- ALEX MEGINO, TANMS Student, 8th Grade
Ray Glenn Lizama
Dancer, choreographer, owner of Studio 29:11, dreamer!
1. What does it take to be a dancer?
You have to have fun. keane and mari madrid, two world renowned choreographers, once said that everyone starts dancing because it’s fun. So I believe that having fun dancing makes you a dancer.
2. How about you, was becoming a dancer and choreographer your dream? How did it all begin?
I wanted to first have a career in drawing, then photography, then as a pediatrician, but as for dancing, I would only watch VH1 or MTV and see dance videos back in 2007 and I have always loved how fun and cool it looks. back in my junior year in high school (2009), God told my best friends to force me to dance for pep-rally. From there, the love of dance grew. From having my very own dance crew, teaching big groups, choreographing for church events, performing at public events, doing YouTube, etc.
3. From your experience, who has more chances to succeed, a dancer with skills or a dancer with talent?
I believe that every dancer has skill and talent. God gives us just the same as everyone is. I believe that those that just believe in themselves and want to share love through dance, succeed. I deeply believe that dancing is a gift from God, so sharing it is like reminding people that they’re just as talented.
4. Who do you consider a dance star or inspirational artist?
There are a lot of people that are my inspirations. But, there is one choreographer that inspired me from the start of when I started taking choreographing, and that is Kyle Hanagami.
5. Your style, how would you describe it?
Confident.
6. Have you ever competed?
Yes, I have. Back in high school with my dance crew and two in college. We got 3rd runner-up (2011) for a partner dance whom I got blessed to dance with Jonelie Torres. Second runner- up with another God-given blessing of a group (2013) called PASSIONXPURPOSE.
7. What’s your dream/goal for the future?
To have inspired to believe in how good God is and how has love can be expressed in countless of ways, and one of them would be through movement and music. To use dance to raise money to help people around the world. To help everyone believe in the goodness of who they are. To have the studio as second family. to always be happy and thankful.
8. Your message for those who haven’t started dancing yet?
Try it out.
