Six students of Daito Bunka University in Tokyo, Japan, visited Saipan this week on a cultural exchange program with Northern Marianas College.
The students arrived Friday, Jan. 30, accompanied by Professor Hiroshi Tanaka and Associate Professor Shinya Tadakuma, as well as executive Keiki Saegusa of Central Sports, a key organizing partner of the Marianas Visitors Authority for events such as the Saipan Marathon, Tinian Turquoise Blue, and Rota Blue Triathlon.
Given Japan’s longstanding role in the tourism economy of the Northern Marianas, the MVA welcomed the opportunity for Japanese students to visit the islands and experience island life, including college life. Many local students, families, and schools have welcomed exchange students through the decades, a tradition the MVA hopes the community will continue to build upon.
On Saturday, Jan. 31, the group took a sightseeing tour of historic and scenic sites, including Banzai Cliff, Suicide Cliff, Last Command Post, and Mt. Tapochao. On Monday, Feb. 2, the group visited Northern Marianas College, where they had a campus tour, attended a lecture, and had lunch before their departure later that day to Japan. The group also made a courtesy call at the MVA during their visit. (MVA)
