Da Misters once again dominated the “Sets for Pets” Beach Volleyball Tournament last Saturday at the sand courts of Crowne Plaza.

The team included dad Tyce, mom Angie, and kids Blake, Logan, and Dylan who swept the double-elimination tournament.

They first defeated Bad Beaches, 15-10, then beat Quad Squad 15-9, before advancing to the finals with a 21-7, 15-3 win over Practice Squad.

Da Misters then faced Snoopy in the finals of the co-ed 4 vs. 4 beach volleyball competition.

The eventual champions started off the match strong, taking the lead with a 21-14 first set victory against Snoopy, winning the second set 21-9, and capping the third and final set, 15-7.

Boonie Babies posted on their Facebook page after the tournament and said “Thank you to everyone who helped make our 2nd Annual Sets For Pets a success! We are so thankful to everyone who gave it their all on the sand and the individuals/organizations who supported us behind the scenes! We are so excited to continue putting on events that bring the community together to promote animal welfare on-island! Congratulations to Team Mister for taking the tournament for the second year in a row! Saipan friends, please help us thank our local sponsors by supporting their businesses. Because of their generosity, we are able to continue our mission.”

Although no dogs were adopted out, Grace Keilbach, Boonie Babies Saipan co-founder, said she hoped their mission of community outreach about their organization was spread and recognized. She said an estimated $500 was garnered throughout the event.

The sponsors who donated cash and prizes to the event included The Angry Penne, Gold’s Gym, The Shack, Marianas Creations, RJ Liquor, TK Solutions Saipan, Poki Yaki, Cha Saipan, T-Bar, Pualani Crown, and LoneFox.

Boonie Babies was founded in 2018 as a small rescue group to aid the community and animals of Saipan. Their mission is to rescue, foster, and adopt out as many boonie dogs as possible, and to educate the community about the value of the special island ‘breed’. Feeding rounds are operated every day by volunteers, in which stops are made to packs of starving strays to deliver water, a meal, and the kindness these dogs deserve, but they are unable to take in any more dogs at this time.
