D2Pats’ Pat Cepeda and Pat Taitano were hailed winners of the 19th Hole Bar & Grill’s Islander Tag Team 8-Ball Sunday night in Puerto Rico.

The duo boasted a healthy double-digit lead over the field coming into the final round held last March 3 and 4. They finished the series heads and shoulders above the field with 35 points through eight pairings.

The series officially concluded Saturday night when Tasi’s Oscar Sablan and Ed Blas came out on top of a three-way tie for second place.

Tasi defeated I Don’t Care’s Norman Tenorio and Quinton Ngirarios, 5-4, and went through third placer One Shot’s Ron Chisato and Edward Suzuki, 5-3, before IDC conceded in the third match after trailing, 1-4; all three teams finished the double round robin with 28 points.

Other participating teams included Elaus’ John Mongami and Taylor Watanabe, Y-Not’s Nolas Kaliga and Ben Norita, Leonize’s Leonard Sablan and Nizer Masayas, and I Don’t Know’s Gus Taitano and Ken Phillips.

The Top 4 teams were presented with trophies with the Top 2 receiving modest cash prizes when the group reconvened Sunday night.

They also held a 12-man double-elimination potluck singles tournament on Sunday with IDC’s Ngirarios coming away as the victor over team Elaus’ Watanabe.

In addition, registration is now open for an encore Islander Tag Team 8-Ball series, which is set for March 17 and 18 at 7pm. Opening racks break at 7:30pm and 9:30pm.

Organizers are aiming to fill eight teams; slots are still available.
