Cup, Plate finalists complete

Four teams prevailed in their respective semis matches to march into the finals of the M-League’s Cup and Plate title games last Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

In the Cup finale, it will be the top-ranked Inter Godfather’s and third-seeded MP United Football Club. MP United advanced to the finals first after stunning the second-ranked Wild Bill’s, 2-1, while Inter Godfather’s booked the second finals ticket after slipping past Tan Holdings FC, 3-2.

Ryu Tanzawa lifted Inter Godfather’s to victory after making a pair of goals, including the game-winning shot in the 85th minute. Tanzawa got his first goal in the 65th minute to spark an Inter Godfather’s comeback.

The fall season top finisher had to rally midway in the second half after facing a 0-2 deficit early in the final 45 minutes of the match. Sean Perez drilled both goals for Tan Holdings, breaking the spell in the fourth minute of the second half. His second goal game in the 57th minute, boosting Tan Holdings’ chances for an upset.

However, Inter Godfather’s would not be denied as Tanzawa spearheaded a fightback with his first goal eight minutes later after Perez got his second. Peter Loken then evened up the match with his shot in the 75th minute, while Tanzawa completed the come-from-behind win with another goal five minutes before the match wrapped up.

Inter Godfather’s will dispute the Cup against MP United this Sunday at 6pm.

MP United eased its way to the Cup finals after shutting down Wild Bill’s, 3-0,

Raymond Mercado starred in the win, hitting two goals in back-to-back fashion, while Zhi Peng Lin knocked in the other one.

Lin hit the board first with his conversion in the 20th minute, while Mercado made it 2-0 for MP United with his first goal in the 35th. Mercado’s other goal was recorded in the 65th minute.

Wild Bill’s had repeated attempts to avoid a shutout, but just could not finish the play, as goalie Christopher Aninzo was there to save the day for MP United.

Meanwhile, in the Plate title match, it will be Matansa versus Sun Palace.

Matansa worked its way to the finale after a 6-5 victory in a penalty shootout over the hard fighting World Resort.

Gabriel Arkoh delivered the last and winning penalty shot for Matansa. Ahmed Titu, Young Ha Hwang, Tej Gurung, Amzad Hossain Khan, and Moe Zaw also scored for Matansa in the penalty shootout.

Kharki Durba missed the equalizer for World Resort, which got its five points in the penalty shootout from Juanito Tiamzon, Mason Fruit, Chhetri Dhiraj, Hoin Ryu, and Chandra Pakhrin.

Earlier in regulation, Pakhrin drilled the game-tying goal in the closing minute of the second half. Ryu scored World Resort’s two other goals, posting his first in the ninth minute and the second four minutes later.

Matansa’s three goals all came from Titu, who registered his first two in the 24th and 31st minute and the third 11 minutes into the second half.

In the other semis game in the Plate division, Sun Palace won over Shirley’s Football Club, 1-0.

Feng Chun Jin scored the lone goal in the match in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

The Sun Palace-Matansa Cup finale will also be played this Sunday at 3:30pm.
