Cultural demos front and center at IFC
Cultural demonstrations were in the spotlight when the 2nd Annual International Festival of Cultures resumed at the Garapan Fishing Base last Saturday.
Over 10 different ethic communities that live in the CNMI demonstrated some of their unique customs.
The Chinese community showed off a unique form of tai chi that, according to the instructor, is not easily mastered because it takes immense time and concentration.
The Filipino community showcased an array of handmade jewelry. Individuals were given the option to get their names or words hand-carved on bracelets.
The Japanese community exhibited popular Japanese games, with children demonstrating how the kendama is played.
Other communities showcased similar demonstrations and crafts, while a few had on their cultural attire, like the Korean community. Members of the Korean community were in full authentic Korean formal wear.
The Pohnpeian and Chuukese communities showcased their traditional skirts and mwars while performing their cultural dances.
Others had authentic traditional food, like the Bangladesh community.
