CUC water service, filling stations resume today

The limited water service schedule issued in the wake of Typhoon Soudelor was disrupted by the approach of Tropical Storm Goni; however, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has already resumed water distribution to some of Saipan’s villages.

Generators provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency were disconnected from CUC’s pumps and wells in advance of the storm; however, FEMA’s contractor continues to reactivate and refuel the generators to restore limited water service to Saipan.

CUC personnel released water to customers in the vicinity of the Navy Hill reservoir Sunday afternoon, and Water personnel continued the expansion of multi-village limited water service despite winds and rain brought by Goni’s passing.

While limited water service to many villages will resume today, it will be done based on the order in which FEMA’s contractor reactivates the generators. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, CUC will resume the previously announced service rotation this morning.

In the interest of safety for CUC’s men and women in the field, the CUC water filling stations were closed yesterday. The stations will reopen today, Aug. 17, for daily service between the hours of 12pm and 7pm.

Water filling stations are located in As Teo, Kannat Tabla, Capital Hill, and Navy Hill. Filling stations in Kagman and As Matuis were closed on Saturday, Aug. 15, due to logistical issues related to the approaching storm. The sites will remain closed until Water personnel reassess the sites.

As a precaution, all water provided by CUC will need to be sanitized through the use of chlorine bleach or boiling before it can be used by the community.
