CUC to finish installing 2,141 concrete poles today

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. aims to complete by today, Friday, the installation of 1,323 concrete power poles on Saipan and 818 on Tinian.

CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho said these poles is the first contract in the restoration efforts after Super Typhoon Yutu’s devastation.

He disclosed that all those power poles should be installed on Saipan and Tinian by today’s deadline.

Camacho said there was a lapse of funds from this first contract because, under the original contract, they could not bring all the people and equipment on time. The central government created a new contract because the project was already funded.

He said that 90 percent of the project was already funded in the original contract.

Camacho said the new contract provides a 30-day extension but “all the power poles that had been purchased—which is 1,323 on the island of Saipan and 818 on the island of Tinian—will be installed.”

Camacho said the next 30 days will involve the installation of wires, conductors, and other materials on the power poles.
