CUC replacing power plant roof

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has determined a lowest-bidder for the roof replacement for Power Plant 1.

According to CUC, the government is now processing a notice-to-proceed with the project to replace the plant’s roof.

Noting the time it took get the project going, CUC executive director Alan Fletcher said they had to go back to the two-lowest bidders chosen to modify expenses.

CUC “revised it to get it within an affordable budget,” he said.

According to CUC management, a six-month completion date is given for the project.

Three months would be for procurement of off-island supplies, according to CUC.

In CUC’s board of directors meeting yesterday, director Joe Torres called this “an urgent project,” nothing the rainy season that is on the way.

Board director David Sablan, upon hearing the update from CUC management, noted that it appears the project will probably be done by the first-quarter of the next fiscal year.
