Hundreds of families and business establishments will have to endure an eight-hour water interruption today as the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. scrambles to repair old pipes.

CUC said the water outage will last from 8:30am to 4:30pm and will affect residents of Dandan, Airport Road, Fina Sisu, and As Lito.

“The purpose of this water outage is to allow CUC and AIC Marianas to continue replacing existing valves and make piping connections on the water lines in these areas,” CUC stated in a media release.

Residents and commercial establishments that will be affected include those in Lower Dandan, Airport Road, Fina Sisu and As Lito, while residents of Upper Dandan will experience low water pressure.

CUC said that because of the scale of the work to be performed, it recommends that travelers take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the affected areas.

This fiscal year, CUC expects an increase in funding for both water and wastewater projects after Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan asked for a 1.5 percent set-aside funding for the two from the House of Appropriations Subcommittee in Congress. The current law provides .25 percent of the Clean Water Fund for the islands and .33 percent of the Safe Drinking Water Fund.
