CUC has 58 contract projects worth $159.4M
Most contracts are for water-waste water projects
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. as of November 2018 has 58 contracts for various projects with an aggregate total amount of approximately $159.4 million.
In his report about CUC’s overall activity last November, CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho disclosed that 38 contracts are for active projects while the remaining 20 are in-processing as new contracts or as change orders to current contracts.
Camacho’s report was filed last Friday before the U.S. District Court for the NMI.
U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge David O. Carter will hold a weeklong status conference about various CUC projects that will begin on Jan. 29, 2019.
Carter informed the parties that he would like to learn on the status of the various activities and requirements relevant to federal court’s Stipulated Orders 1 and 2 (SO1 and 2)
SO 1 focuses on drinking water and wastewater and the restructuring of CUC’s organization.
SO 2 focuses on oil issues and also applies to oil spills and the remediation of the contaminated power plants.
Camacho said among CUC’s divisions, water-wastewater has the highest number of contracts—21 worth approximately $4.7 million.
He said the power generation division has only 17 contracts, but the cumulative sum of these contracts are worth approximately $147.5 million, the highest amount among the divisions.
Camacho said 13 contracts are funded by grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Insular Affairs, and the CNMI.
He said CUC funded the remaining 45 contracts.
Camacho said the amount of contracts funded by grants is 7 percent of the grant total amount.
Last August, Camacho informed the federal court that last June, CUC monitored 54 project contracts with an aggregate amount of approximately $149.3 million.
He said 49 are active projects while five are in-processing as new contracts or as change orders to current contracts.
