The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is continuing its efforts to fill some of the vacant positions in the company.

In a meeting yesterday, CUC acting executive director Gary Camacho reported to the board that they have chosen an individual for the position of “drinking water and wastewater division manager.”

The said position is a stipulated order position.

“We have selected an individual. We have communicated with him, and we have sent a copy of a contract to him for review for a couple of days and to return with his decision,” Camacho said.

He added that they expect to hear from the chosen candidate today or on Saturday.

“That person is off-island,” Camacho said in an interview.

Another stipulated order position which is the “petroleum and compliance manager,” also known as technical manager for oil, was recently filled by CUC after Maximino Simian was hired for the position.

Simian was CUC’s environmental and remediation manager for power generation prior to being hired as TMO.

He is a registered professional geologist and has 14 years of experience in the field. Simian also worked for the CNMI Division of Environmental Quality.

As for the human resources manager position, Camacho said the person is on island.

“I did communicate with the top two,” Camcaho said during the meeting, “We’re going to move to offer to one of them.”

CUC’s HR manager position has been vacant since July. During a prior meeting, the utilities company said there were about seven applicants for the position.
