CUC board takes up executive director’s contract

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors discussed yesterday during an executive session whether to retain or not executive director Gary P. Camacho.

When Saipan Tribune left CUC’s conference room at 2pm, the board, led by their chair Miranda V. Manglona, was still in executive session.

At the comment portion of the board’s meeting, Senate vice president Sen. Jude Hofschneider (R-Tinian), CUC deputy director William Gilmore, and several CUC management staff expressed their support for Camacho’s leadership.

Camacho was praised for his “exceptional management, leadership, and communication skills” to move CUC in the right direction, particularly during the recovery efforts from the destructions of super typhoons Soudelor and Yutu.

In February 2017, U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge David O. Carter approved Camacho’s appointment as executive director.

Carter waived the qualification requirement under the court stipulate order No. 1 to allow Camacho to serve as the executive director.
