Criminal mischief at St. Jude church
The CNMI Department of Public Safety dispatched officers last Sunday, June 30, 2019, at about 2:08pm, to the Saint Jude parish church in Koblerville in response to a report of criminal mischief.
Police officers arrived at the scene at 2:17pm and met with an off-duty officer who claimed to be the caller. The officer noticed that the left glass door at the main entrance of the church was broken and a concrete cylinder block appeared to have been thrown through the glass door.
A hint of smoke seemed to come from inside the church. Officers entered the church and noticed that a tablecloth had been burned, along with a microphone, at the bottom of the altar. Both officers also noticed black scorch marks on the altar table. Two candle holders also appeared to have been knocked off the altar. At that point, the deacon of the church and a priest arrived and checked to see if anything was missing.
Nothing appeared to be missing from the church as the money box looked untouched and in its original place.
