The Northern Marianas College is hosting a free information session to highlight the new “Credit for Prior Learning” program. The session will be held today, Aug. 14, 2014, at 5:30pm in Room G-1.

Credit for Prior Learning is a way that college credit is awarded for knowledge gained through training, employment, and life-experiences, as self-assessed and documented in a portfolio.

The portfolio will be developed in the Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio Development course (BE200), which is a 3-credit course being offered this fall 2014 semester at NMC.  The course will help students develop a portfolio that includes a written analysis of what they learned and how they applied this knowledge in the workplace at a level that merits college credit consideration.

The Portfolio Development course is a requirement in the Credit for Prior Learning process and will examine written narratives, verifiable documents, certificates of training, certifications and licenses, proficiency exams, college transcripts, and military and professional training.  Other verifiable evidence of knowledge may be considered.
