CPA suspends Saipan airport parking lot fee

Forget forking out that dollar to park at the Saipan International Airport’s parking lot this December.

Expiring on Nov. 30 is POI Aviation’s parking management contract with the Commonwealth Ports Authority. Yesterday, the CPA board of directors chose to cancel the current bid in place for the parking booth.

CPA executive director Maryann Lizama asked the board to cancel the bid, saying that based on the current proposal, the booth would operate at a “profit loss” for CPA.

She said that canceling the bid would “basically open up the public parking,” with the exception of bus and taxi permits until further analysis was done.

In an interview, Lizama confirmed that CPA would not be charging for public parking until further notice. She said CPA needs to do further financial analysis.

The no-charge parking will be effective Dec. 1, according to her.
