CPA posts progress on airport repairs
The Commonwealth Ports Authority continues to make progress in repairing parts of the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport that were damaged by Super Typhoon Yutu last October.
These repairs and installations of items in the airfield over the past couple of weeks include the repair of the airport pilot signage; the installation and repair of wind cones for runways 7 and 25; the installation of pilot directional signs, such as the installation of multiple LED lights and transformers; the replacement of burned circuit boards; and the removal of electrical wirings in the rotating beacon.
Also, the Commonwealth Ports Authority has cleared a staging area and side office to house incoming materials for the installation and construction of new loading bridges.
Outside the airfield, the CPA continues to repair several damaged properties. It recently installed three new check valves and replaced a mechanical seal at its primary and secondary water pumps. All its water pumps are now fully functional.
“Although Super Typhoon Yutu has caused significant damage to the airport, the Commonwealth Ports Authority continues to operate as efficiently as possible,” said CPA executive director Chris Tenorio. “Our staff works tirelessly to continue to repair and improve all of CPA’s ports. The CNMI should be very proud of its hard-working staff at CPA.” (PR)
