CPA firefighter gets 58-day sentence for assault

Superior Court associate judge Perry B. Inos yesterday slapped a 58-day prison term against a Commonwealth Ports Authority firefighter who assaulted his former girlfriend in the parking lot of Aquarius Beach Tower in Chalan Kanoa.
Inos sentenced Giovanni Camacho Sablan to a total of one year and six months, all suspended except for 58 days, for assault and battery, and disturbing the peace, with credit for the 58 days he had already served in jail. This means Sablan is now a free man.
Sablan is also a mixed martial arts fighter known as “The Fighter” and “Palaksi or “Palaxi.” When the incident happened he was a firefighter at CPA’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Unit.
The 23-year-old Sablan was placed on supervised probation for two years and was required to undergo anger management counseling at the Community Guidance Center.
He was also directed to pay a $200 fine, $200 probation fee, and $25 court assessment fee and to perform 150 hours of community service.
Sablan is prohibited from possessing or consuming any alcoholic beverages or any controlled substance during the probationary period.
During the preliminary hearing in September, Inos dismissed the attempted kidnapping charge against Sablan for insufficient evidence but found probable cause to charge him with two counts of assault and battery and two counts of disturbing the peace.
Police said the victim suffered bruises on the left and right shoulders, and abrasions on the left forearm.
Police investigation showed that the victim was driving home in the early morning hours of Aug. 20 when Sablan, driving a pickup truck, pulled alongside her and forced her to park at the Aquarius Beach Tower. When she got off, he chased her and grabbed her from behind. Sablan threw the victim twice onto her car, but she managed to run away.
