CPA board approves credit card terminals for Saipan ports
The Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors has adopted a resolution to authorize CPA executive director Christopher Tenorio and its comptroller to obtain credit card terminals for the Saipan airport and seaport.
At a meeting last week, board committee on finance chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds moved for the approval of the CPA resolution, saying it had been extensively discussed before.
“This will give our customers the ability to pay credit cards instead of cash to make it easier for everybody,” King-Hinds said.
CPA directors unanimously adopted the resolution without discussions. CPA acting chair Thomas P. Villagomez presided over the meeting. Also present were board secretary Roman T. Tudela and members Pete P. Reyes and Barrie C. Toves.
CPA introduced the resolution to increase its revenue by accepting electronic payments from customers who do not want to pay cash.
CPA has determined that payment by cards is a more secure transaction and provides better protection against fraud such as cash and counterfeit notes.
CPA has found out that accepting payments by cards will improve its cash flow as card payments are automatically transacted and immediately goes into CPA’s financial account within one business day.
The board has agreed that the CPA executive director and its comptroller should coordinate with a bank to obtain credit card terminals for the Saipan airport and seaport.
