The Commonwealth Ports Authority has approved the over $1-million Tinian Harbor Seaport Marina Improvement project to enhance the Tinian Marina.

During a CPA board meeting yesterday, the board approved the supplemental request of the CPA financial affairs committee for $1,008,460 and has approved the drawdown of funds to begin the Tinian Marina upgrade.

CPA chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds said she is excited for the project, hoping it will create opportunities for commercial development in that area. “I also hope that the improvements and the upgrades will better service the community and those engaging in commercial activities and become another site that our tourists can enjoy as well,” she said.

King-Hinds said the project includes paving the parking area, the construction of a restroom, and other infrastructure improvements that will enhance the Tinian Marina.

King-Hinds said the funding is drawn down from the Seaport portion of the Divert Lease proceeds.

In addition, the CPA financial affairs committee approved many other supplemental budget requests, including the Tinian airport parking lot expansion, and other Super TyphoonYutu-related improvements.

“We’re beginning to draw down Yutu insurance proceeds as well as [Federal Emergency Management Agency] covered expenses but another big thing for us today is the approval of Tinian airport expansion program supplemental budget drawdown. For that we’re looking at expanding the airport there, consistent with the layout for the new Tinian International Airport masterplan on Tinian and we’re tapping into the Divert Lease proceeds to fund that specific parking lot expansion,” King-Hinds said.
