Police officers wrested the crown Wednesday from the perennial winners—firefighters—to be named the winners of this year’s Guns & Hoses burger eating contest.

Police officers Carl Hocog, Daniel Kintol, Buddy Igitol, and Ramon Saralu chowed down Hard Rock Café’s famous 10-ounce spicy legendary burgers with onion rings and bacons to defeat the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services’ team composed of firefighters J.J. Concepcion, Daylan PUa, Paul Manglona, and Daverick Camacho.

The contest was sponsored by Hard Rock Café in celebration of its 46th Founders Day.

Hard Rock Café Saipan purchase manager Nida Palconit said they have been doing the burger eating contest every year since they opened in 1997 in support of firefighters and police for helping the community during times of distress or emergencies.

The winning police officers as well as the firefighters received T-shirts and key chains as prizes.

DPS acting spokesman Jason Tarkong thanked Hard Rock for its community program for firefighters and police officers.

“We enjoy it. Fire wins every year, seven years in a row. It’s the first time DPS won,” Tarkong said.

Hard Rock on Wednesday gave a 25-percent discount to all the service personnel—police officers, firefighters, and hospital staff—and 15 percent for local guests.

Hard Rock Café Saipan opened in August 1997. It has 170 branches worldwide.
