Cop pleads guilty to misuse of govt vehicle
A police officer has pleaded guilty to a traffic case that charged him with misuse of a government vehicle after he used a car registered to the Department of Public Safety’s Boating Safety in going to the Tanapag Cemetery for his personal business.
Police officer Norbert Magofna Pua pleaded guilty on Thursday to operating a government vehicle for a purpose other than official government business.
Office of the Public Auditor investigators took photos of Pua at the cemetery.
Pua was sentenced to pay a $250 fine plus $10 in court costs.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho gave the 43-year-old Pua until July 24, 2017, to pay the fine and court costs.
According to court records, police officer Norris Kwon issued the traffic citation to Pua at the Tanapag Cemetery on Oct. 26, 2016, at 10:07am.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit served as counsel for Pua. Assistant attorney general Jonathan Wilberscheid appeared for the government.
Last March 15, Corrections Director Gregory Castro was issued a traffic citation for misusing a government vehicle after OPA investigators allegedly caught him using a Department of Corrections vehicle in going to the Marianas Country Club in Marpi, where he played golf.
Castro stated he was doing official business at the Marianas Country Club, where he played golf with his brother. He pointed out that when he was issued the citation, nobody asked him what his purpose was at the golf course.
