The Superior Court has allowed the release of a Department of Public Safety police officer after she posted $200 of her initial bail in a case where she is facing assault charges.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho allowed Iris John Rangamar, 26, to post 10% of her initial $2,000 cash bail.

Rangamar, who was off-duty at the time of the alleged incident, was identified as the person who assaulted a customer at Cheers Bar in Garapan last weekend. Footage of the assault was captured by the establishment’s surveillance cameras.

Camacho imposed an initial cash bail of $2,000 on Rangamar but allowed her to post 10% of the bail or $200. In addition, Camacho ordered the defendant to surrender her firearm and was ordered that she be placed on desk duty after posting bail.

Rangamar must follow a strict home-to-work schedule and will return to court for preliminary hearing on Jan. 20 at 9am and for arraignment on Jan. 26 at 9am.

Emily Thompson of the Public Defender’s Office was appointed as Rangamar’s defense counsel, while assistant attorney general Steve Kessel appeared for the government.

Rangamar is facing charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

According to court documents, the male victim said a woman he did not know walked uninvited into the private room of Cheers Bar in Garapan where he and a male friend were drinking alcoholic beverages.

The victim said the woman jumped on his lap, pinned him down and began punching him in the face and torso. He tried to push her off, but the woman ripped open his button-down polo shirt and scratched him several times on the chest and on the stomach.

When he was able to push her off, he ran out of the private room.

Outside the private room by the bar, the victim said he was punched in the back of the head and was pushed, causing him to fall against a glass door, which then shattered and broke.

When police responded to the scene, the attacker had already left the bar. The victim showed the officers the injuries he sustained after the altercation with the woman. Police saw four scratch marks on the victim’s chest, a laceration on his lower chest, an abrasion on his stomach, and a bump/swelling and redness on his eyebrow and cheek.

After reviewing the security footage from the bar, investigators allegedly identified the woman as Rangamar.
