Convict admits he and custodian smoked pot
U.S. Probation Officer Gregory F. Arriola yesterday asked the U.S. District Court for the NMI to conduct a hearing to determine if the bail of Steven Romie Aguon should be modified or revoked.
Arriola said the special condition of Aguon’s bail is that he shall not use or unlawfully possess a narcotic drug or other controlled substances.
Last February, Aguon pleaded guilty to count one of the indictment charging him with immigration document fraud. He is waiting for his sentencing.
In his declaration, Arriola said that, on May 2, 2012, the Marianas Counseling Services informed him that Aguon had tested positive for chemicals found in marijuana.
Arriola said Aguon stated that he drank tea made from the roots of marijuana plant and that a friend who made “local medicine” had prepared the tea.
Arriola said when confronted about information that the roots of marijuana do not contain appreciable amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), Aguon admitted smoking marijuana after a family member offered him the drug.
Aguon also allegedly disclosed that he also saw his girlfriend, who is one of his third party custodians, smoking marijuana with friends in front of his residence.
Arriola said Aguon stated that he confronted and slapped his girlfriend on the face for using the drug.
The probation officer said that, on May 25, 2012, the girlfriend admitted to him that she indeed smoked marijuana and that Aguon slapped her for that.
