Contrasting results for leaders Homeboyz, Alamo

The Jokers Homeboyz and National Alamo Car Rental won their respective matchups against different opponents in contrasting fashion to share the early lead in the Saipan Billiards Association-Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday League.

The Homeboyz downed Jonny’s Team SCS, 9-4, while National Alamo escaped with a 7-6 decision over the Jokers Wildboyz to end up tied with similar 18-8 slates after two weeks of action in the new season of the Thursday League.

Cesar Sangalang, with the Homeboyz enjoying a comfortable 6-2 lead, sealed the Jokers crew’s victory when he disposed of Toto Bigcas in the third match of the second set of Singles 8-Ball events.

The Homeboyz and Team SCS, when play continued, split the last four remaining matches in the Singles and Partners 8-Ball events for the final tally.

All 13 matches will be played as each win and loss would be added to their standing with the team that has the most wins earning the season crown.

National Alamo had a different story in their face-off with Wildboyz where Roman Rodriguez and Joseph Achas needing to ward off the challenge of Jack Thornsaket and John Reyes to complete the 7-6 win.

Boyet Sequioco and Rey Hermogenes defeated Reyes and Randy Sablan in the first Partners 8-Ball match to move National Alamo to one win away of clinching victory.

Patrick Sablan and Ray Matsunaga, however, had other plans as they tied the match at 6-6 after besting the pair of Achas and Rodriguez.

Achas and Rodriguez bounced back in the last Partners 8-Ball to give the win to National Alamo.

The Wild Bill’s Rack ‘N’ Roll downed sister team Wild Wild West, 9-4, in the other match.

Wild Bill’s teams Rack ‘N’ Roll and Wild Wild West are tied for third to fourth places with 11-15 records, while Team SCS and the Wildboyz complete the standings with 10-16 cards.

Games in the Tuesday League were being played at press time with the Jokers Destroyers taking up the Jokers Docomo Hustlers, while the Jokers IT&E Voyagers was playing against the Jokers StraightBlackBall. The Jonny’s Crazy 8 and Jonny’s Titans was the other matchup.

Week 3 action in the Thursday League continues tomorrow with the Wild Wild West hosting the Wildboyz, the Rack ‘N’ Roll visiting the Homeboyz, and Jonny’s Team SCS going up against National Alamo.
