‘Continue to protect the CNMI’s environment’
Gov. Eloy S. Inos is urging communities to continue to do their part in protecting the CNMI’s environment.
During a ceremony proclaiming April as Environmental Awareness Month on Wednesday, Inos said everyone in the CNMI should do his or her part to protect the islands’ natural resources.
Speaking in front of members of the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Resources and supporters on Capital Hill, Inos said one of the measures that should be supported is the minimal use of plastic bags.

Plastic bags are one of the most common pollutants on the island and elsewhere.
“Let’s support existing beautification programs and support this measures,” Inos said, after signing the proclamation.
A legislation introduced by Rep. Vinson Sablan (Ind-Saipan) seeks to minimize the use of plastic bags, among others, to reduce wastes in the CNMI.
Inos, wearing a BECQ cap in a gesture to support Environmental Awareness Month, also said, “We must do our share to keep the CNMI clean.”
“Individuals, families, visitors, businesses, and the government; we are all responsible to ensure that Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and the Northern Islands remain clean with bountiful natural resources for our present and future generations.”
