Consul General Medardo Macaraig expects green-card holders, dual citizens, and U.S.-born individuals who recently turned 18 to come in droves for the start of registration and certification of qualified overseas absentee voters starting next week.
The process will allow these groups to vote during the May 13, 2013, Philippine national elections.
“Some of them have already approached us and are looking forward to registering in order to participate in the 2013 election,” Macaraig told Saipan Tribune.
The registration and certification process will be conducted from Nov. 2, 2011, until Oct. 31, 2012, during regular office days from 8am to 6pm. It will also be conducted during the remaining schedule for the One-Saturday or Sunday-A-Month service, which is on Nov. 19 and Dec. 18, from 9am to 4pm.
Registration requirements for overseas absentee voting are a valid Philippine passport and an accomplished OAV Form No. 1, which can be obtained at the Consulate or downloaded and printed from the Commission on Election website, www.comelec.gov.ph/.
Macaraig said he is pleased that many individuals belonging to different categories of qualified voters have already expressed their desire to vote.
“Surely, the registration will keep us busy at the Consulate besides other consular services,” he added.
