Permanent concrete benches have been installed at the Veterans Cemetery in Marpi.
The Armed Forces Committee of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce recently completed a project to produce and install concrete benches at the cemetery for the comfort and convenience of the family, relatives, and friends of veterans interred there.
The committee plans to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the cemetery on Friday, Nov. 10, starting at 9:30am.
“The [Armed Forces Committee] recognized the need to provide the community with more seating areas. We hope these newly installed benches will offer comfortable seating for those paying their last respects or wishing to reflect on their loved ones, especially during Veterans Day, which falls the day after our ribbon-cutting,” said committee chair Brian Clayton of Megabyte.
Joining the ceremony are the Chamber board of directors, Veterans Affairs Office, Veterans of Foreign Wars Saipan Post 3457, sponsors, and supporters. The Armed Forces Committee also invites all veterans and the community to join the ceremony.
The committee thanks David Bush of Hawaiian Rock for his support and generous donation of the fiber-reinforced concrete and to RNV Construction for their work.
The committee engages the business community with the military by arranging “welcome receptions” for visiting military ships, arranging community outreach activities for military service personnel, providing updated brochures to military service members that include discounts offered by various Chamber members, and by keeping up-to-date on military actions and activities in the Commonwealth.
The committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month. For more information, call (670) 234-7150 or email coordinator@saipanchamber.com.
