Community readies for CNMI Women’s Month
Women’s Month is quickly approaching and the CNMI Women’s Association and its partners are gearing up for a monthlong series of activities.
Activities will include a proclamation signing, a Mass, a meet-and-greet luncheon and dinner, workshops, a Women’s March for H.E.R.S, a two-day Women’s Summit, and first-ever CWA Gala, among other events.
Among the organizations and agencies that have committed to join the events are the Northern Marianas College, Carolinian Affairs Office, Division of Youth Affairs, DCCA-Arts Council, Community Guidance Center, Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, CHCC-Division of Public Health Services/Maternal & Child Health Bureau, Best Sunshine’s Corporate Social Responsibility team, Marianas Young Professionals, and Marianas Behavioral Health International, Inc.
CWA co-founder and president Felicidad T. Ogumoro said the highlight will be the 4th Women’s Summit on March 27-28, 2017, and CWA Gala on March 31, 2017, which aims to raise funds for a Women’s Center and community training and job placement programs that benefit women and their families.
Women’s Month is spearheaded by CWA and the Office of the Special Assistant for Women’s Affairs. The International Women’s Day theme is “Be Bold for Change.” The CNMI has adopted “Empowering Women as Leaders of Change” as its theme for 2017.
The CNMI Women’s Association is funded by the Community Services block grant, a sub-grant awarded by the DCCA Division of Youth Services under the Office of Community Services, Department of Health and Human Services.
It is led by a seven-member board.
