Community invited to NMC’s Charter Day today
To celebrate more than 30 years of enriching lives through higher education, the Northern Marianas College is inviting the CNMI community to its biggest celebration of the year, Charter Day, today, May 4, 2012.
“We’re inviting everyone to join us in As Terlaje for our Charter Day celebration,” said NMC president Sharon Hart. “We’ll be showcasing various programs, celebrating employee and student achievement, and of course, featuring great entertainment.”
The festivities will kick off in the morning, with the open house hosted by the NMC Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service. The open house will take place from 9am to 2pm. CREES will also be hosting a citrus workshop earlier at 8am in Room D1.
The celebration will continue in the afternoon with the employee and student recognition awards, the signing of a proclamation, and the presentation of the House of Representatives resolution. The college will also be presenting its first ever “Donor of the Year” award, which recognizes business partners who have played a key role in NMC students’ success. Additionally, CREES will be handing out a “Farmer of the Year” Award and “Dean’s Recognition Award for Farming.”
The evening portion (5pm to 10pm) of the event will feature the Marianas Idol Competition, the Battle of the Bands, and the Clash of the Crews Dance Competition, and first ever Hilux Truck Show Competition sponsored by Microl Toyota and Power 99. Scheduled performers include Maika’I, Black Sands, Micronesian Club, Proa Music Society, SSHS Singing Group, Umang Glee Club, Afetnas Regime, Go for Broke Band, and more.
Delicious food, drinks and games will also be offered for sale by numerous vendors.
