Deadline nears to nominate 2021 Bridge of Light awardee
The Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence is reminding those interested in nominating for this year’s Bridge of Light Award that the deadline to submit a nomination is 11:59pm on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.
This award is NMCADSV’s annual effort to honor the efforts and accomplishments of one extraordinary individual in the CNMI who has worked diligently to provide safety for the community, to work to end domestic violence and sexual assault, and to be a “Bridge of Light” for victims and survivors.

Scheduled water service interruptions today
There will be a scheduled water service interruption today, Sept. 6, 2021, from 7:30am to 4:30pm for Commonwealth Utilities Corp. customers in the areas of Lower Dandan Homestead, Airport Road, portions of Kannat Tabla, As Perdido, As Lito, Fina Sisu and portions of Koblerville (Chalan Monsignor Martinez Road from the Saint Jude Church to the ABCD Market).
This is due to the isolation of the 6-inch transmission waterline for water operators to perform an emergency leak repair located on Airport Road near the Hawthorne building. Water services to affected areas will resume soon after.

4.6-magnitude quake in Maug region
At 1:49pm on Sept. 4, 2021, a report of a 4.6-magnitude earthquake occurred at the Maug island region in the Northern Mariana Islands. Currently, no tsunami warnings or advisories were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. For more information, contact the CNMI EOC State Warning Point at 237-8000. (PR)
5.3-magnitude quake in Guam
At 9:03am on Sept. 5, 2021, a report of a 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred 117 km south-southwest of Merizo in Guam. Currently, no tsunami warnings, or advisories were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. For more information, contact the CNMI EOC State Warning Point at 670-237-8000. (PR)
Guam launches Cycle 3 of rental assistance program
TAMUNING, Guam—The Department of Administration’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program will launch Cycle 3 of its rental and utility assistance today, Sept.6, 2021.
ERA Cycle 3 webform applications will be live and accessible on the DOA website at doa.guam.gov. Interested applicants can visit the DOA website to review ERA program qualifications, as well as complete and process the webform application. A PDF copy of the application is also available for download.
The ERA office will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, from 8am to 4pm assisting customers and accepting applications.

NAVFAC Pacific awards $13M contract to Guam business
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM—Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific awarded a $13.9 million firm-fixed-priced task order on Sept. 1 to Core Tech-HDCC-Kajima LLC of Tamuning, Guam for the construction of a reinforced concrete blast structure over an existing fuel manifold at Joint Region Marianas in Guam.
The work to be performed provides for the demolition and removal of the current intermediate subterranean valve vault that houses existing petroleum oil lubricant pipelines and the construction of a new hardened concrete building structure and hose connection vault at the Tiyan Junction Valve Vault facility.
Work will be performed in Guam and is expected to be completed by September 2023. (PR)
