Military training at FDM, Warning Area 517

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla today, Oct. 3, from 4:50am to 6pm.

The military will also conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Oct. 4-, from noon to 6pm.

It is recommended the public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00″N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank are open for public use. (PR)

Chamber meeting on Oct. 4

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will have its monthly general membership meeting at the Saipan World Resort tomorrow, Oct. 4. The luncheon begins at 11:30am and the meeting starts promptly at noon. Guest speakers feature Gary Camacho, executive director of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., to update Chamber members on power generation, water programs, and the effect of the island’s growth.  Also speaking is Ray Reyes from SSFM about the comprehensive land use plan being updated for the Department of Public Lands. NMDC membership meeting

The Northern Marianas Descent Corp. will have a general membership meeting today, Oct. 3, from 6om to 7pm, at the Carolinian utt. The meeting’s agenda will cover public land leases, proposed land lease extensions, and the Northern Marianas Cultural Center. The Northern Marianas Descent Corp. board of directors meeting will take place on Oct. 9 at 9am at the Garapan Community Development Center. (PR)

Tinian mayor to request for military assistance

The Office of the Tinian Mayor intends to solicit assistance from the Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training Program. The assistance will include no-cost dental care and related services. The proposed assistance will take place at Tinian Health Center during the month of September 2018.

Dental providers or private citizens who have questions or who wish to voice opposition to military assistance for the project may contact Ignacio P. Kiyoshi Jr. at the Office of the Mayor at 433-1800/3222 no later than seven days after publication of this notice.
Persons not filing comments within the time frame noted will be considered to have waived their objections to military assistance for the project. Info can be found at http://irt.defense.gov/. (PR)

Lions Club to celebrate 25th anniversary

The Saipan Fil-American Lions Club will be a host a fundraiser called “The Ultimate Drag Queen 2017” on Nov. 4 at the Royal Taga Hall of the Saipan World Resort, with VIP tickets priced at $25 and general admission at $10. Proceeds will be used for the club’s community projects. Fourteen candidates will be competing. The show will be choreographed and directed by Ernie Molina.
