SSHS PTSA meeting today

Saipan Southern High School will have a Parent, Teacher, Student Association meeting today, Sept. 20, Wednesday, at the school cafeteria, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. (PR)

Free Service Academy Nights this week

The office of Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan is hosting a series of free Service Academy Nights this week for high school and college students, parents, educators, and others who are interested in learning more about the educational and career opportunities offered by the U.S. military academies, eligibility requirements, and how to apply. These evening workshops will feature presentations by congressional staff and guest speakers, including service academy graduates. Sessions are scheduled as follows:

– Saipan: Wednesday, Sept. 20, American Memorial Park Visitors Center, from 5pm to 7pm

– Rota: Thursday, Sept. 21, Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School, from 5pm to 7pm

– Tinian: Friday, Sept. 22, Tinian Jr./Sr. High School, from 5pm to 7pm

Important MHS events

Marianas High School will have its first PTA meeting at the counseling office today, Sep.20, starting at 6pm. Agenda includes election of officers; student canteen proposal, etc. Friday, Sept. 22, is half-day for all students. Dismissal is at 12:30pm. The first quarter mid-progress reports will be released from 4pm to 6pm at the E courtyard. (PR)

PTSA meeting for Kagman cluster schools

The Kagman cluster schools will be having a PTSA meeting tomorrow, Sept. 21, 2017, from 5pm to 6pm. Topics to be discussed: School budget proposals, committee support, uniforms, betel nut consequences at the high school level and more! There will be a cake raffle. Class of 1987 gears up for reunion

The Class of 1987 will be having its 30th-year class reunion on Saturday, Sept. 23. The reunion is open to any CNMI Class of 1987 graduate, regardless of which high school they graduated from. A Mass in honor of departed classmates will be held at the San Antonio Church on Sept. 23, 2017, at 4pm. The reunion will follow immediately after the Mass, from 5:30pm to 10pm, at the Surf Club (beach side) in Chalan Kanoa, the former Pacific Gardenia Sunset Bar and Grill. FOA presents one-act comedies

The Friends of the Arts’ first production of the new season, One-Act Comedy Night, presents comedies were written by David Ives, Robert Anderson, and Shel Silverstein and will be performed by Cherlyn Cabrera, Harold Easton, Neil Fama, Gios Gozon, Maria Mettao, Deirdre Rosete, Chuck Sayon, Emma Timmons, Rinisa Torres, Kristine Wolf, and Les Wolf. It will be directed by Harold Easton and produced by the Friends of the Arts. It will be staged at the Dolphin Theatre inside the Marianas High School campus, and will run on the evenings of Sept. 22, 23, and 24 at 7pm. Seats can be reserved now. Tickets for non-FOA members will cost $8, while tickets for adult FOA members will cost $6 and students is $4. Seats are limited. Free seminar on small business taxes

The CNMI Small Business Development Center will be offering a free business seminar on Saipan at the Commonwealth Development Authority boardroom tomorrow, Sept. 21, 2017, from 8am to 12pm. The free seminar is called “Everything You Need to Know About Small Business Taxes” and will be presented by the CNMI Division of Revenue & Taxation and CNMI Division of Customs Services. EEO opportunity, civil rights updates at SHRM meeting

Glory Gervacio, director of the EEOC’s Honolulu Office, along with Jenna Grambort and Sebastian Aloot from the U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C., will be presenting on updates and current issues on the topic “Equal Employment Opportunity and Civil Rights” at a meeting of the Society for Human Resource Management NMI Chapter on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s SandCastle, from 8:30am to 2:30pm. This presentation is open to the public and includes the Hyatt lunch buffet and morning snacks and drinks at the cost of $40 for SHRM members and $50 for non-members.
