Military training at FDM, W-517, former golf course, Andersen south
ASAN, Guam
—The U.S. military will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times:

• Oct. 22-23 from 11am to 10pm
• Oct. 26 from 9am to 8pm

The U.S. military will conduct training at Warning Area 517 during the following dates and times:

• Oct. 22 from 1-7pm
• Oct. 23 from 3:30-10pm

The U.S. military will also conduct training at the former Adm. Nimitz Golf Course in Barrigada and Andersen south in Yigo during the following dates and times:

• Oct. 22 from 3-10pm
• Oct. 24 from 6:30-10pm
• Oct. 25 from 6-9:30pm

It is recommended the general public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.

These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training.

The public should be advised that routine helicopter training often accompanied with the use of blanks can occur throughout the week in areas of the former Adm. Nimitz Golf Course and Andersen South. (PR)

Scheduled power outages
There will be scheduled power interruptions on Oct. 23 that will affect Industrial Drive in Lower Base. It will also affect the Chalan Pale Arnold Road in Puerto Rico. No water well service area will be affected but the wastewater service area in Sadog Tasi and Puerto Rico will be affected. For more information, contact the CUC Customer Call Center at 664-4282. Deadline to comment on OVR policy reset
The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and the State Rehabilitation Council would like to announce that the deadline for submission of public comments on OVR’s revisions to its Supported Employment Policy has been extended to Oct. 31, 2018. Andersen Air Force Base sets annual exercise
Andersen Air Force Base is scheduled to conduct an Operational Readiness Exercise from Nov. 5 to Nov. 8. This exercise satisfies an annual requirement in accordance with Air Force Installation Mission Assurance Exercise Requirements to maintain operational readiness and is not focused on any specific threat.

Expect increased noise and activity to include sound effects, messages from loud speakers, sirens and noise from alert vehicles. Visual effects such as smoke may also be visible. (PR)

Library closed on Oct. 27
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library will be closed on Oct. 27, in lieu of the 4th Annual Friends of the Library Golf Tournament. If interested in participating in the tournament or for more information, call the library at 235-READ. (PR)

UOG association to host senatorial forum
The University of Guam Political Science Student Association will be hosting a 2018 Senatorial Forum Series. The forum series will feature Democrat and Republican candidates running for a seat in the 35th Guam Legislature. The forums will take place on Oct. 23, 24, and 25, from 5pm to 7pm at the University of Guam CLASS Lecture Hall.

The topics that will be addressed in this forum are economic development, political status, environmental sustainability, and UOG related issues. The audience will also have an opportunity to ask the candidates questions. (PR)

MVA membership meeting on Nov. 9
The Marianas Visitors Authority will hold its semi-annual general membership meeting on Nov. 9, 2018, at Royal Taga Ballroom, Saipan World Resort at 10am. Registration will begin at 9:30am.

Guest speakers will be from the MVA’s offshore offices and will provide a recap of fiscal year 2017 projects and the MVA’s marketing plans for fiscal year 2019. Speakers will be the in-country managers: Irene Lee, Korea market; Florence Shi, China market; and Takashi Ichikura, Japan market.

The meeting cost is $16 per person for MVA members and $20 per person for non-members. The cost includes light refreshments and lunch. RSVP should be made by Nov. 1, 2018.

Great Stories Club: This is a free book club for teens ages 13-18. We meet twice a month, and each month we discuss a different book. The next book club will meet in December.

Motheread/Fatheread 20th Anniversary breakout sessions: Join us on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9am to 12pm at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library as we celebrate 20 years of increasing literacy in the CNMI. We will have breakout sessions that participants can visit as well as information on the Motheread/Fatheread literacy program.

Join teen advisory board
Attention all teens! Do you have ideas for programs and events at the library and want to help implement them? Do you want to influence the Young Adult collection at the library? Do you want to meet new people?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are welcome to join the free Joeten-Kiyu Public Library teen advisory board. TAB members will meet regularly each month to socialize, brainstorm ideas, and eat snacks! Teens going into grades 7th-12th are invited to submit an application to join the TAB.
