Free screening of new documentary
Voices of the Marianas will be screening a new documentary about the making of an improvisational play. Titled What We Really Think, the documentary is directed by Barbara Sher and features Marianas High School students as the cast and Galvin Deleon Guerrero as the videographer. The documentary will be shown at the American Memorial Park on Oct. 17, at 7pm. It’s free and open to the public. (PR)
Saipan Little League membership meeting pushed back
The Saipan Little League Baseball, Inc.’s general membership meeting has been pushed back for Oct. 8, 2014, 5:30pm at the Ada Gym Pavilion. Managers, coaches, parents and all interested individuals are invited to attend. (PR)
MHS sets Q1 Mid-Progress Report Open House
Marianas High School is encouraging all parents and guardians to come to our 1st Quarter Mid-Progress Report Open House on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, from 4pm to 6pm at the MHS Gymnasium. Marines to train at Warning Area 517
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Marines will conduct training at Warning Area 517 during the following times:
-Oct. 3 from 9am to noon and 1-4pm
-Oct. 6 from 8am to 4pm and 6-10pm
The general public especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are advised to stay clear of the area during the times and dates indicated.
W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprised of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. W-517 supports surface and aerial gunnery, missiles, and laser exercises. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. W-517 is contained within the following coordinates: 13° 10″N/144° 30″E, 13° 10″N/144° 42″E, 12° 50″N/144° 45″E, 11° 00″N/144° 45″E, 11° 00″N/143° 00″E, 11° 45″N/143° 00″E, 12° 50″N/144° 30″E.
FOA membership meeting on Oct. 14
The Friends of the Arts will hold its first membership meeting of the year on Oct. 14, 6:30pm to 9pm, at the Canton Chinese Restaurant, across from the Mobil/McDonald’s in Garapan. Members and supporters of FOA are invited to attend. (FOA)
Task Force 70 to hold change of command ceremony
ASAN, Guam—Task Force 70 is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony on board USS George Washington (CVN 73) on Oct. 5. During this time-honored Navy tradition, Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery will be relieved as commander of Task Force 70 by Rear Adm. John Alexander. Task Force 70 is the battle force for U.S. 7th Fleet. Commander, Task Force 70 has operation control of all carrier strike groups and independently deployed cruisers, destroyers and frigates that deploy or transit the 7th Fleet area of operations. The commander also serves as Commander, Carrier Strike Group 5, centered on George Washington, and the embarked Carrier Air Wing 5. (PR)
