Free presentation, workshops on oral history

Rlene Santos Steffy, an ethnographer and oral history practitioner, will be presenting on her television series, i Tinaotao Marianas, at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center theater on Oct. 24, starting at 6pm, followed by a two-day oral history workshop at Kagman High School on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26, beginning at 8:45am. Both events are free and open to the public. Attendees of the Oct. 24 presentation will receive a special voucher to use towards the purchase of Season 1 and 2 of i Tinaotao Marianas. (PR)

JIL Church Saipan to mark 20TH anniversary

The CNMI community is invited to attend the Jesus is Lord Church Saipan’s 20th anniversary celebration on Nov. 5, 3pm at the Royal Taga Hall of the Saipan World Resort. From its humble beginning of small Bible study group established on March 6, 1997, by seven Filipino workers who were originally from different JIL churches in the Philippines, this congregation has grown over the years. The JIL Church Saipan congregation now hosts its members at their sanctuary in San Vicente.  There are three services available every Sunday: 7:30am, 9:30am, and 6pm. JIL Church Saipan is one of the many churches all over the Philippines and in 55 different countries under the Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide founded and headed by Eddie Villanueva. At present, it has over 4 million members around the world. (PR)

Military training at Warning Area 517

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at Warning Area 517 during the following dates and times:

– Oct. 24, from 8:30am to 5pm

– Oct. 25, from 8:30am to 8pm

– Oct. 27, from 10:30am to 10pm

It is recommended the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.

W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00″N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank are open for public use. (PR)

Casting call for FOA Christmas show

The ladies of the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society will stage Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. The auditions will be held at the Marianas High School tomorrow, Oct. 25, starting at 6pm. Show dates will be Dec. 15, 16, and 17. OVR to host Employer Forum

The State Rehabilitation Council and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, in partnership with San Diego State University Research Foundation’s Interwork Institute, will be conducting their triennial “Comprehensive Statewide Needs Assessment Project” with employers on Oct. 24 and 25, 2017 (select a date for participation only) from 1pm to 2:30pm at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.

OVR highly encourages all employers to take advantage of the “Employer’s Forum” as it will be both informative and beneficial for their organization. Employers comprise a new category and dialogue with employers will center on their business needs and the opportunities for inclusion and innovation.
