Free business training on Rota on Wednesday

The CNMI Small Business Development Center will be offering a free business training seminar on Rota on Oct. 15, Wednesday, at Rota’s Northern Marianas College (Room A-2) from 10am to 12pm. The seminar will be limited to a maximum of 30 persons so register now by calling 532-9478/51 or 664-3018. Business owners, prospective owners, or clients are encouraged to attend. (SBDC)

Navy, Marines training on Farallon de Medinilla

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla on Oct. 16 from 7pm to 11pm. The general public—especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and marine tour operators—re advised to stay clear of the area during the times and dates indicated.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be on a 10-nautical mile radius on all quadrants. Farallon de Medinilla plays a special and unique role in national defense because its location provides frequent access that supports established training requirements.In addition, the air and sea space in the Farallon provides sufficient room for the many different attack profiles necessary to replicate training opportunities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Outreach for women with bleeding disorders

On Oct. 16, Dr. Tiffany Lin, pediatric hematology (blood disorder) fellow at University of California at San Francisco and pediatrician at the Commonwealth Health Center, and Pam Carhill, MPT of Marianas Health’s Pacific Wellness Cente, will be doing outreach and education on Von Willebrand’s Disease at the Thursday Street Market. Lin and Carhill will be passing out educational materials and speaking individually with persons who think they may have a child with a bleeding disorder. FOA membership meeting reset

The Friends of the Arts has postponed its membership meeting to Oct. 21, at the Canton Chinese Restaurant, across from the Mobil/McDonald’s in Garapan. The meeting will include a delicious Chinese buffet and musical and thespian entertainment. (PR)

Library Association Fundraiser Oct. 17

The Commonwealth Association of Archives, Libraries and Museums is still selling tickets for its fundraising event on Oct. 17, 2014 at the Pacific Islands Club, 6pm to 9pm. Free screening of new documentary

Voices of the Marianas will be screening a new documentary about the making of an improvisational play. Titled What We Really Think, the documentary is directed by Barbara Sher and features Marianas High School students as the cast and Galvin Deleon Guerrero as the videographer. The documentary will be shown at the American Memorial Park on Oct. 17, at 7pm. It’s free and open to the public. (PR)

SDA School to host bowling tournament

The Saipan SDA School will be hosting its first Bowling Tournament on Oct. 19, 2014, at the Saipan Bowling Center at J’s Restaurant. There will be cash prizes of $120 for first place; $100 for second place; and $80 for third place. Registration starts at 1pm; games start at 1:30pm. Tickets cost $15.
