US Navy to conduct training in open ocean today
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Navy will conduct open-ocean exercises from 9am to 6pm today, Nov. 20, within a 10-nautical mile radius of the following coordinates: 13 ̊45’’N/144 ̊35’’E, 13 ̊30’’N/144 ̊35’’E, 13 ̊30’’N/144 ̊19’’E, and 13 ̊45’’N/144 ̊19’’E.
It is recommended the general public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.

MIFICPA silver jubilee this Saturday

Remediation work at Guma’ Hustisia
Construction and site remediation work at the Guma’ Hustisia, Iimwal Aweewe, House of Justice on Saipan will require the partial closure of the service windows on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, and Friday, Nov. 22, 2019. Hours of operation for the Office of the Clerk of Court, Commonwealth Recorder and the Cashier services at the Guma’ Hustisia will be as follows:
Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019: Closed 7:30am to 12 noon and open from 12:01pm to 4:30pm.
Friday, Nov. 22, 2019: Open 7:30am to 11:30am and closed all afternoon.
All other Judiciary offices will maintain regular business hours. (PR)
SHRM meeting tomorrow
The Society for Human Resource Management-CNMI Chapter will have its general membership meeting tomorrow, Nov. 21, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Saipan ballroom, beginning at 8am. The guest speaker will be Jenna Grambort, trial attorney in the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, who will be presenting information on the INA’s anti-discrimination provision. She will provide helpful information on how to avoid employment discrimination based on citizenship status and national origin.
The results of the election for the 2020 CNMI SHRM board members will also be announced.

Survivors & caregivers support group meeting on Thursday
All people facing cancer, their family members, and caregivers are invited to the next Commonwealth Cancer Association’s monthly support group meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21, starting at 5:30pm at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Chamolinian Room. Guest speaker is Dr. Peter Brett, oncologist at the Commonwealth Health Center. His presentation will be on the roles of diet, physical activity and body weight among cancer survivors.

Wanted: Volunteer kettle ringers
The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers as bell ringers from Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving, up until Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. The bell ringers would do two-hour shifts each. The Red Kettle campaign is the Salvation Army’s fundraiser.
The Salvation Army will also have a delivery of Thanksgiving meals to tent dwellers, low income families, and the homeless on Thanksgiving Day.
It is also calling on the community to support their annual toy drive, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Saipan and Toys for Tots.

Essay contest open to high school students
The Saipan College Prep Academy is holding its “1st Annual SCPA Essay Contest” for high school students on the island. The contest is a double competition, with one open only to SCPA students, and the other being open to all high school students in the CNMI. Students need to write a 650-word essay on the topic, “Is Greta Thunberg right?” and submit it to Keith Tessen or Wanja Choi at the SCPA on or before Dec. 15 for SCPA students, and Dec. 30 for the rest.
