Board election in tomorrow’s SCC meeting

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its monthly General Membership Meeting tomorrow, Nov. 3, 2021, at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Ballroom.

Guest speakers will be Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig, who will speak about the progress of projects under the American Rescue Act Plan and bout the government’s new online system.

Another guest, Ray Muña of the Apprenticeship Program at the Northern Marianas College, will be speaking about how the program can offer training for employees related to their daily work, from soft skills to technical skills.

The Chamber will also be presenting its Professional Development Award, which is provided for members to encourage businesses to equip their employees with the skills needed to grow, thrive, and succeed.

There will also be a board of directors election. Four board of directors seats that will be filled by any of the six nominees this year. There are nine total seats that make up the board of directors.

Lunch will be served at 11:30am and the meeting will begin promptly at noon. The luncheon fee is $25/Chamber member and $35/non-member.

High surf seen until 6am today

A high surf advisory now in effect until 6am today, Tuesday. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are present in north-facing reefs of Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6am today, Tuesday. This will result in a high risk of rip currents.

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected. The public is advised to avoid venturing out toward north facing reefs. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. (PR)

Upcoming NMC info session postponed

Northern Marianas College’s info session today for the college’s Natural Resource Management program is postponed to a later date.

Individuals who would like to learn more about NMC’s upcoming spring 2022 semester can visit the NMC website at www.marianas.edu or by emailing admissions@marianas.edu. The application deadline for new students is on Dec. 1, 2021. 

New and returning students are also reminded of the following scholarship deadlines:

– Free Application for Federal Student Aid: Dec. 2, 2021 (Students who have submitted a FAFSA for the fall 2021 semester do not need to re-submit one for the spring 2022 semester.)

– Saipan Higher Financial Education Assistance: Dec. 1, 2021

– CNMI Scholarship: Dec. 15, 2021

Free webinar on federal contracting

The Guam Procurement Technical Assistance Center is offering free live webinars this November. Webinars run from 10am to 11:30am and will be conducted via Zoom. Links to the live webinar and the webinar evaluation will be emailed to all registered attendees 15 minutes before the start of the webinar.

– Nov. 4, 2021-Obtaining a DUNS & Registering in SAM-Vendors need a DUNS number and an active SAM registration to participate in Federal contracting. The Guam PTAC will take you through the registration processes for both these requirements. We will also show you how to complete the annual SAM registration renewal.

– Nov. 10, 2021-Federal Contract Opportunities-SAM.gov is the portal for Federal Contract Opportunities. The Guam PTAC will show you how to use the website to ensure you do not miss any opportunities. Types of opportunities, search filters, and search strategies will be discussed.
