Military training in open ocean, at Farallon de Medinilla
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Navy will conduct an open-ocean exercise today, May 7, and on Wednesday, May 8, from 11am to 11:55pm at the following coordinates 13° 26”N/145° 08”E and 13° 42”N/144° 36”E.  

The Air Force will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla on May 8, from 7:30am to 8pm. 

It is recommended the public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. It is also recommended the public, commercial pilots, fishermen and marine tour operators stay clear from these areas during the dates and times indicated.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 3-nautical mile radius of the island.

These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. (PR)

GCC offers free Construction Boot Camp
The Guam Community College is offering a free Construction Boot Camp for the first 25 registrants. The six-week training cycle will begin on May 20 through July 2, 2019, from 8am to 4 pm at the GCC campus.

The Future Builders of Guam – Construction Boot Camp will focus on carpentry, welding, electrical, basic blueprint reading, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Participants will be eligible to earn nationally recognized certifications in these areas and be able to earn a National Career Readiness Certification, OSHA-10 Certificate, and CPR/Basic First Aid.

Veterans’ town hall meeting
The U.S. Department of Veterans Health Administration is having a town hall meeting hosted by the Veterans Affairs Pacific Island Health Care System director Jennifer Gutowski. This will be to share information, hear feedback from veterans and to answer questions on VA Health Care.

The town hall meeting for the islands of Saipan, Rota and Tinian are on:

• Saipan: American Memorial Park theater on May 7, 2019, from 3pm to 4:30pm.
• Tinian: The Mayor of Tinian’s conference room, May 8, 2019, from 9:30am to 11:30am.
• Rota: The Mayor of Rota’s conference room, May 9, 2019, from 10am to 12pm.

All veterans, their families, survivors and any organization or individual who works with or on behalf of veterans are encouraged to attend.

Guam CHamoru commission meetings set
The Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan i Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ (Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam) will hold its monthly meeting on May 9 and 23, Thursdays, from 12:30pm to 3pm., at  the Garden House, Plasa de Espana, in Hagåtña. A work session will also be held on May 16, from 12:30pm to 3pm at the same venue.

Air Force to conduct training at Radio Barrigada
ASAN, Guam—The 644th Combat Command Squadron is conducting training at Radio Barrigada, formerly known as the Adm. Nimitz Golf Course, until May 10, from midnight to 7pm.  These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. The public should be advised that during these routine trainings, blanks may be used. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. (PR)

New PH passports for releasing
The Philippine Consulate General in Guam, in coordination with the Office of Honorary Consul Eli Arago, is releasing passports to those who renewed their passports last March 3, 4 and 5. You can pick up your new passport at Finasisu Terraces Apartment Bldg. D, second floor, top of the Mini-Mart Store, Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm (12pm to 1pm, breaktime). Bring your old passport and receipt when claiming your new passport. If someone else will pick up the passport, there must be an authorization letter from the applicant. JKPL, Bookmobile closed for inventory
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and Bookmobile Outreach Services will be closed for five days for inventory, from May 14 to May 18, 2019. All penalties for items due during this period will be waived. We ask the public for your cooperation in utilizing library programs and services in the days not covered by inventory. (PR)
